A warm welcome to the Purple PM Class!!

I am so excited about starting school!  I hope you are too!!  My name is Susan Nicholson and this is my 7th year teaching at Upland First United Methodist Preschool. I am happy to be leading the “Purple PreK PM Class”!!  I have worked in Early Childhood Education for the past 19 years. I am trained in Handwriting Without Tears, (which has since changed its name to Learning Without Tears) and am a past member of the Early Childhood Education Advisory Committee at Citrus College. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband Mike for 33 years. Our daughter, Julia, graduated from Occidental College and later went to PT school. She is a Licensed PTA and lives in New Jersey. Our son graduated from USC and works as a licensed architect in Long Beach. Both of our children attended Upland First United Methodist Preschool when they were young! I truly believe that an exceptional preschool experience helps children succeed in school and in life. I love Pre K and can’t wait to get acquainted with you and your child in the weeks ahead.

My assistant is Ms. Courtney Brown. Ms. Brown was a student teacher here at FUMCP in the past and we loved her so much we asked her to join our staff this year! I am looking forward to working together! Ms. Brown is very happy and enthusiastic about working in the PM class!

This year is unlike any other we have experienced. Our main goals are to keep the children safe and have fun! Children learn through play and our curriculum will be based on play with a purpose. We will begin by getting acquainted and learning our school rules. Good handwashing and social distancing will be encouraged. We will learn to follow directions and become familiar with our new routine. In this short month of November we will explore the beauty of autumn and what we are thankful for.

Our daily schedule and weekly lesson plans will be available online. Please take a minute to read them. This will tell you what activities are planned for each day.  This schedule will also help you understand and discuss your child’s activities at the end of each day.

Reminder:  Please send a complete change of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear, socks) for your child with their name clearly marked on each piece of clothing the first week of school. Place clothes in a gallon size Ziploc bag, all items labeled with their name.  Your child will keep them in their cubby in case of unplanned spills, muddy clothes, etc. Also, we will be spending a considerable amount of time outside, so please send a jacket or sweatshirt for your child to keep at school.

*Please have your child leave toys or anything else from home, at home! Thank you for your cooperation.

If you ever need to reach me after school hours, please leave a message on the school phone (909)985-0255 or email me at preschool.fumc@verizon.net, ATTN:  Mrs. Nicholson. Ms. Brown and I look forward to a fun and exciting year ahead!!

                                                    Love,

                                                      Mrs. Nicholson and Ms. Brown
