Hello Red Apron Families!

I am so excited to welcome you to our classroom for this school year! My name is Kelle Amaro and believe it or not, last year I was in your shoes: sending my son off to his very first year of school here at First United Methodist Preschool! Even though I had been on the teaching side of preschool for years, as the parent I had all the emotions about this big milestone in his life. Thankfully, he had a great year, and I was so happy with our school that when a teaching position became available here, I jumped at the chance to join this wonderful team. So now, my son is still here on campus, heading into Pre-K and I can’t wait to welcome all of your children into my own preschool class!

As mentioned, this is my first year here at First United Methodist preschool, but I’ve been in the education field for 10 years. 7 of those years were in the preschool setting. Early Education is my passion and I think it’s such a privilege to introduce young children to school, support them as they explore their interests, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning! I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in Child Development at the University of La Verne. My husband and I have one son, Elliott, who is 4 years old. We also have a little dog named Oliver who has been best buddies with Elliott ever since Elliott was old enough to throw food off of his highchair. 🙂 Our family loves to play music together, ride bikes, visit the beach, and if I am able to sneak in some time by myself, I love to work in my little backyard garden or do some yoga to unwind.

This year we are blessed to have Ms. Intisar Abdelkader as our classroom assistant. She has her associates degree in Child Development from Chaffey College. Intisar been working here at First United Methodist for 7 years and we are so lucky to have her. She has four children and four grandchildren. Intisar loves to cook, bake, and stays active playing soccer and bowling! She loves to be outdoors.

During the first couple weeks of school, we will be getting acquainted with one another as well as becoming familiar with our classroom and playground rules. We will establish some of our class routines such as circle time, play time, snack, and outdoor play. We will introduce the story of Creation and talk about how God made the world.

September concepts of focus will include the color red, the circle shape, and the number 1. Our students will be learning about feelings, friendship, and sharing about their families and pets! * Please send your child with a family photo so we can add your family to our classroom family tree! * Toward the end of the month, we will havefun with apples! Exploring their colors, sizes, and tastes. We may even use apples for an art project or two!

Reminder: Our children may have a need for a change of clothes due to an occasional potty accident or juice spill. Please bring a full change of clothes (shirt, shorts/ pants, underwear, and socks) in a large Ziploc bag to keep in your child’s cubby. Please write your child’s full name on the front of the bag with a Sharpie. We will keep these clothes at school until they’re needed. They will be returned to you at the end of the year. *

We can’t wait to meet your children and get to know each of their unique personalities and interests. Please know that we are here to partner with you to support your child as best we can. Entering preschool can be an adjustment for children and their families. Rest assured that in our classroom your child will be loved, and we will do all we can to make sure they know they’re safe and secure with us. We want them to not only feel comfortable at school, but to truly love coming here! Thank you for entrusting us to care for your most precious person. We are looking forward to a great year!

Love to our new Red Aprons,

Mrs. Amaro & Ms. Abdelkader
